Besides participating in the mission work of the United Church of Christ at state, national, and global levels, we support several local missions.
Food Pantry/Thrift Store – The Washington County Food Pantry supplies food for needy families in an emergency situation. The thrift store (Joeph's Coat) offers for sale donated items of clothing, small appliances, books, etc. From the increased community support, both donations and purchases, the store is serving a real need in the community.
Samaritan's Purse provides international relief through its Operation Christmas Child program. Members of local congregations fill shoe boxes with Christmas gifts to be distributed around the world.
"Your support of the TOOLS OF HOPE & BLANKET Program provides the right tools at the right time, helping Church World Service make a world of difference in the lives of people in need." The Rev. John L. McCullough, Executive Director CWS in a letter to the church.
A blanket with symbols for donations adorns the altar. Week by week the growing number of donations shows us how this mission work is being funded by our church.
Blood Mobile – When the Blood Mobile visits Blair, volunteers help serve the donors by preparing sandwiches and drinks for them.
Election Workers – another form of community service supported by the church is staffing local elections.
Other local missions activities include supporting Care Corps, an agency that assists homeless in the Fremont, Nebraska area.
